broadway bellesEncore's Select Summer Vocal Ensemble
Singers also will have the option of auditioning for solo performance slots so that our show will take the form of a musical review.
Interested singers will audition in advance for entrance into Broadway Belles and will be able to enroll in both Broadway Belles and Encore Summer Performance Camp, if desired, for varied summer music experiences during different weeks. Broadway Belles will likely perform at one or two retirement centers, although an outdoor community concert, perhaps in early fall, also is a possibility. Broadway Belles need to sing on pitch and altos need to be capable of learning to sing a harmony line. Broadway Belles will meet August 15-29. Rehearsals would take place Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:30-8:30 p.m. (although we might rehearse Sunday afternoons 3:00-5:00 p.m. if that's preferred by the singers' families). The performances most likely will take place in the afternoon Saturday, Aug 28 and/or Sunday, Aug 29. Tuition is $150 and includes sheet music and performance tracks. In addition, each girl will be required to purchase a preselected, reasonably-priced dress similar to the dress shown. Rehearsal location will depend on the number of singers. If this first-year program begins with about a dozen or fewer singers, rehearsals will probably take place at Carol's home in Burke Centre near the Fairfax County Parkway. If there is a larger number of participants, rehearsal space will be rented in a nearby church or community center. To begin the registration process, please email Carol at carol@carolboydleon.com or 703-250-0554 to let her know of your interest. Simple, stress-free auditions can take place by phone or in person. Tuition will be due July 31 but for planning purposes, it will be useful to learn of your interest as soon as possible and preferably no later than July 2. Jessica singing "Shy" Play Song | Stop Shown below is one possibility for performance attire.
"Broadway Belles"
(Lyrics by Arthur J. Jackson, Music by Herbert Spencer, c 1919)
Girls from everywhere come hurrying down
To that little street in New York town
From hill and dale, they answer Broadway's call
And though it may seem strange,
Just a year will see them change
To Broadway Belles, Broadway Belles,
They're the fairest of the fair
You can tell them anywhere
Those Broadway Belles weave such spells
Men all bow to, they kowtow to Broadway Belles. |
