A contemporary, upbeat song which wishes listeners a Happy Hanukkah, this piece was arranged to be accessible to all singers including students in school choirs, volunteer synagogue and community choirs, etc.  There is a 28-page SAB choral arrangement (with optional Bb trumpet), a 16-page two-part choral arrangement (shown as treble parts but could be performed by men and women), and a 12-page arrangement for unison choir or solo performance.  Piano score is included as well as optional guitar chords.  Unison arrangement includes a lyrics-only page for younger singers.  (Please note that sample audio is in a slightly lower key than choral arrangements.)  Click HERE for sample SAB page. Sea Chanty - arranged by Adrian A. Durlester

Inspired by the creative spirit of the scribes who shaped the appearance of the Shirat HaYam, this new setting is whimsically set in the style of a hornpipe of sailor's chanty and weaves in melodies for the special and regular tropes. The primary melody, Ashira L’Adonai which appears in the Voices in Prayer songbook, is written in a limited range specifically for performance by a youth choir while the other parts are to be sung by adults. Although children truly love to sing Ashira L’Adonai and their participation is likely to result in a spirited presentation of the music, Sea Chanty has also been successfully performed by only adult singers. This is a wonderful selection for Shabbat Shirah or at other times in place of oft-used settings for the "Mi Chamocha" text. Performed as the opening song of the Shalshelet Foundation's First International Festival of New Jewish Liturgical Music in 2004, this lively setting of Shalom Aleichem was created to be sung at noninstrumental services as well as at accompanied services and concerts.
