Summer Performance Camp

July 20-25, 2009 (Mon-Sat)

For 2009, Encore Summer Performance Camp is for students entering grades 3-8:

Snow White and the 7 Songs: A Fractured Fairy Tale

Since 1992, area residents have had the opportunity to send their children to Carol's one-of-a-kind summer music camp where the emphasis is on having a thoroughly enjoyable musical theater experience.

In 2009, campers will perform a fun musical loosely based on the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  The music will include beloved songs from several different musicals and the story line will be brought up to date with a possible surprise ending.  Young children, older children and adults are all likely to enjoy the performances.

In 2008, 30 children in two separate casts prepared and performed a special age-appropriate adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. Campers did an incredible job of learning and rehearsing the show, helping make simple scenery, and deciding upon costuming. Every summer, our audience is amazed at how much the campers can accomplish in one brief week of camp and the final performance is always a delight.

Our previous productions – adaptations of Mary Poppins, Annie, Cinderella, Peter Pan and The Wizard of Oz (last performed in 2003) – were so much fun for everyone in the cast as well as for the audience. Each camper comes away from the experience with a tremendous sense of accomplishment and a desire to keep learning more.  Campers learn several songs and choreography for the performance. Their need to memorize lines is reduced by the use of narrators who act as storytellers.

All campers will be provided with a practice CD before camp begins so they can start learning the songs at home. Auditions are held on Tuesday and everyone will be cast in a role and often two.

All campers need to bring is a desire to perform. “Miss Carol” will bring the snacks!
