Encore Performance Camp

I've left the Encore page here for former campers who would like to take a nostalgic look at old photos. I discontinued the camp after the spring 2016 death of my husband and do not have plans to resume it. Enjoy the good memories!

From 1992 through 2015, area residents had the opportunity to send their children to Carol's one-of-a-kind summer music camp where the emphasis was on having a thoroughly enjoyable musical theater experience.

In 2015, 25 girls and boys in two separate casts performed The Wizard of Oz. The audience was enthralled by every wonderful singing and dancing cast member.

Campers did an incredible job of learning and rehearsing the show, helping make simple scenery, and deciding upon costuming. The 2016 season is expected to be equally wonderful and especially fun, as our Sleeping Beauty script is unlike any other! Every summer, our audience is amazed at how much the campers can accomplish in one brief week of camp and the final music-filled performance is always a delight.

"Just a quick note to thank you for another great week of Encore. We parents are always so amazed at how much progress these kids can make in such a short amount of time. It seems as though, with the limited amount of time they have together, it would have to be all work and no play just to pull it off but it's clear that they all have a great time preparing for the shows. You really do a terrific job with these kids and we're so thankful that you take time off from your job to do this! Thanks again and we'll see you next year!  --Therese Burruss (8/1/11)

P.S.  We already have another pal who wants to join in next year."

Our previous productions--adaptations of Mary Poppins, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Annie, Cinderella, Snow White, and The Wizard of Oz--were all fun for everyone in the cast as well as for the audience.

Each camper came away from the experience with a tremendous sense of accomplishment and a desire to keep learning more.

In 2015, campers again received a practice music CD or  music download a week or so before camp begins so they could start learning the songs at home. Auditions were held on the second day of camp and everyone was cast in a role and sometimes two. The performance took place with live piano accompaniment. As "The Wizard of Oz" is a lengthy musical, narrators were used to tell part of the story, and campers acted out all of the most fun scenes.

All campers needed to bring is a desire to perform and a willingness to be part of a team effort. “Miss Carol” will bring the snacks!
