Kol NoVa, the Jewish Youth Choir of Northern Virginia, is open to all children in grades 2 and up
who love to sing contemporary Jewish music. There is no upper age limit. Currently, our oldest members are 17. The 2018-19 season will involve preparation for a Peter Pan Purim musical and the possibility of other springtime performances if the students wish to have a choral experience.
Our fun, spirited rehearsals are held at Beth El Hebrew Congregation, 3830 Seminary Rd, Alexandria, VA from 12:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and are conducted by Carol, who founded the group in 2000.
We'll begin with a fun December get-together at Carol's house to make s'mores and read through the Purim script. Then there will be auditions--every student will be cast in the show--and rehearsals for our annual Purim music.
Please contact Carol by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (703-338-7631) right away if your child might be interested in being part of the Purim musical, as the script is written in the fall for the number of actors we expect. Children need to be mature enough to rehearse for 90 minutes (including a brief break) and be comfortable in a multi-age group. Students join the group at various ages--some are as young as second or third grade, while others begin in middle school or beyond. There is no upper age limit, and the mixing of ages is part of the secret to Kol NoVa's success.
Kol NoVa is a non-audition community youth choir; its members come from all over Northern Virginia. Kol NoVa members are wonderful, caring kids who are dedicated to singing with the group. Most stay with the group for many years.

Past performances include a fully-staged Purim musical for two congregations, songleading at a Tot Seder, leading a Shabbat evening service at Greenspring Village and performing at the JCCNV Israel Street Festival. Because Carol sees the value of multigenerational events, Kol NoVa also sings occasionally with an adult choir, the Olam Tikvah Chorale.
Kol NoVa families generally end the year with a barbecue or beach party and balloon toss.
Tuition is $85 for Purim, with an additional amount if we continue through the Spring. Most of our members return year after year.
Choir members are provided with a music binder, a Kol NoVa t-shirt and are loaned a performance vest if we've got additional Spring performances.
