This remarkable Klezmer CD by Manfred Lemm and his Klezmer ensemble – joined by teenage singers from East and West Germany – absolutely overflows with contagious, universal joy.  Carol was so impressed by Manfred’s efforts to break down the walls of anti-semitism by teaching youth from Germany and around the world to sing Yiddish and Hebrew songs that she was determined to make this CD easily available to Americans.  Adults and children alike will enjoy listening year-round to experience the joy of Shabbat, Chanukah, Purim and more.  You’ll be challenged to keep from jumping up from your seat to dance!

This recording emanated from Manfred’s “Remember for the Future” workshops dealing with Holocaust education and intercultural learning.  The aim of this project is to give children and adolescents an insight into European-Jewish history by introducing them to carefully-chosen Yiddish and Hebrew songs which then lead to study about the Holocaust.  The guiding principle behind this effort is the belief is that if one recollects the events of the past, then one will not have to suffer the same experiences again in the future.

The Schabossim un Lojbgesang CD is packed with 19 songs arranged by singer/guitarist Manfred Lemm and recorded in Bonn-Beuel Germany in 1996.  Fred Patzelt, who also plays on Carol’s Dayenu! CD, can be heard on clarinet and soprano saxophone.  Other musicians play violin, cello, accordion, bass, trumpet, glockenspiel and more.  CD insert is in German with Hebrew transliteration but all songs are sung in Yiddish or Hebrew.    $15 + shipping
